As a Telecom Network Engineer, we'll rely on you to provide intermediate level network services and network problem determination services. This position will directly support LAN infrastructure in all Vanguard leased and owned
buildings.
The ideal candidate should have knowledge of the following technologies
- Cisco 9k
- DNAC
- ISE
- Structured cabling
**This hybrid role (in office Mon-Tues-Wed) is based in either Charlotte, NC, or Wayne, PA**
In this role, you will
- Develop your skills by supporting everything from new large-scale installations to upgrades, maintenance and fixes
- Provide expert level telecommunications network services, including designing, installing, configuring, and integrating new network technologies.
- Evaluate and recommend new network technologies and designs for building sites in the United States as well as international locations.
- Provide design, installation, configuration, and integration of new network technologies.
- Obtain project approval and funding. Identify stake holders and form project teams. Conduct pilot and recommends go/no go decision. Verify network installations meet production acceptance standards.
- Test and evaluate IT vendor products. Recommend vendor selections and new network architecture for building sites in the United States as well as international locations.
- Provide expert level telecom network services for the most complex issues elevated from the Support Center and Technical Services groups. Troubleshoot and resolve chronic and catastrophic problems.
- Identify performance issues and interpret trends, like network traffic, to ensure continuous communications improvement
- Write documentation, including policies and procedures.
- Facilitate network traffic, security, systems monitoring and related discussions with IT and business managers.
- Provide design and debugging services to development teams. Work closely with project managers and developers to implement reliable, manageable, and secure solutions for external connections.
- Train and mentor staff. Conduct formal training sessions, one-on-one sessions, and recommend training vendors.
- Complete network capacity planning activities, including monitoring the network and establishing network capacity metrics. Initiates actions to prevent network degradation caused by capacity issues.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual system tasks.
What it takes
- Undergraduate degree in a related field (or equivalent training and experience)
- Minimum of three years related work experience. Network experience preferred.
- Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) preferred.
- Strong written and spoken communication, project leadership, and group facilitation skills
- Expert knowledge of the following telecom network practices and concepts network security, network architecture design, technical standards and deliverables, troubleshooting tools (e.g., protocol analyzers, load generators, and network traces), software and hardware installation and configuration, network hardware, protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DLC, OSPF, and BGP).
- VoIP software design and implementation experience
- Expert understanding of Avaya Aura products, CM, SM, System Manager CMS, AES, CES Media Servers and Gateways. (Certification Desirable)
- Knowledge of Linux, Virtual Servers, VoIP, IP and SIP protocols, Wireshark, tcpdump.
- Understand the Unified Communications industry environment (SBC, Application Servers, Media Gateways).
- Knowledge of Ribbon SBCs installation and maintenance. (Certification Desirable)
- Experience with Cisco voice technologies. (Certification Desirable)
- Knowledge of design, planning and execution of core voice initiatives (TDM and IP Telephony, SIP, SBC, Session Routing, ACD, Contact Center, Voice-mail, legacy PBX migrations, IP Telephony platform upgrades, etc)
- Experience with Teams Telephony and Direct Routing for Teams.
