The anticipated salary range for this role is between $87,000.00and $126,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
The Sustainability Group is responsible for promoting initiatives to contribute to a sustainable society, elevating sustainability awareness and profile and establishing an ESG center of excellence within SMBC Americas. The Sustainability Associate will help support the development, management and execution of Sustainability and ESG related processes and controls to help promote the Firm's sustainability mission and objectives.
Role Objectives Delivery
- Support the Business Front Office and perform ESG related client and transaction due diligence and reviews including reputational risk review and escalation and coordination with stakeholders within SMBC Americas and Head Office.
- Engage with relevant stakeholders and development of guidance to support client engagement related to the Firm's transition strategy towards net zero and other decarbonization strategy commitments.
- Assist with drafting, enhancing, obtaining and incorporating stakeholder feedback on ESG related Policies and Procedures.
- Develop training materials and communication content on process implementation and other ESG topics to disseminate sustainability knowledge and awareness.
- Prepare analysis and reporting for senior management, committees detailing metrics and trends.
- Stay current on ESG trends and developments and monitor industry trends for sharing knowledge.
- Assist with the other responsibilities and tasks as identified.
Qualifications and Skills
- 3-5 years of comparable or relevant experience. Experience in banking, financial sector or consulting strongly preferred
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree a plus
- Knowledge of ESG reporting and standards (e.g. CDP, GHG Protocol, PCAF), familiarity with frameworks such as (e.g. TCFD, NZBA, UN SDGs) and main ESG rating agencies.
- Highly analytical with demonstrated strong written/verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong credible relationships with key stakeholder groups
- Energetic, eager to learn and self-starter
