The Expense Controllership and Operations role at New York Life plays a vital part in ensuring accurate expense accounting and proficient data management within the finance domain. This position encompasses supporting data maintenance, BI reporting, special projects and collaborating with various departments to influence data-related decisions and contribute to NYL's shift towards becoming a digitally focused organization.
Responsibilities
Data Management and Analytics
- Ensure accuracy, data management, and analytics for NYL's technology expenses.
- Support data maintenance, BI reporting, and ensure data integrity.
- Assess current data structures and processes, compile a detailed repository outlining data products and workflows.
- Maintain data related to projects, accounts, cost centers, financial hierarchy, and reporting.
- Data support and maintenance of Apptio for all related activities.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Support monthly close activities for reporting and data analytics.
- Prepare data for Apptio and Tableau dashboards, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Partner with Finance offshore and the Tech PMO team for accurate expense data validations.
- Maintain data components for reporting and analysis, troubleshoot, and escalate issues.
- Prepare data for ad hoc financial analysis, management, and metrics reports.
Collaboration and Process Improvement
- Identifying areas of overlap and repetition to create a more streamlined and efficient process. Improving the alignment with the organization's goals and priorities
- Collaborate with key stakeholders and various departments within Finance and Technology to deliver project related work.
- Collaborate with Finance and others to solve complex problems uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify innovative. Partner in process improvements to eliminate redundancies, standardize procedures, and implement best practices.
- Interprets internal or external business issues and recommends best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in Financial Planning & Analysis, data management, and expense management.
- Knowledge of Apptio, SAP, and Tableau is a plus.
- Strong analytical capabilities and practical problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Excel functions, features, and formulas to organize, analyze, and manipulate data.
- Change management experience / excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of data governance and its role in data management.
- Motivated self-starter with proactive approach to achieving desired outcomes.
- Proven ability to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
