Role Summary
The Associate on the Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) Managed Accounts Group Performance team works independently and is responsible for the audit, assessment, and related distribution of investment performance analytics.
The incumbent partners with relevant stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of information provided to both internal and external clients. This role requires use of specific performance measurement knowledge to achieve the team's goals.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain and calculate performance for both internal and external constituents for client, model portfolios and GIPS composites.
- Analyze composite returns, determine composite membership based on policies and procedures
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of composite calculations
- Research performance dispersions and determine the source of performance discrepancies
- Collaborate with the performance analysts to research performance dispersions/outliers and proactively determine performance drivers
- Update and maintain GIPS reports and disclosures
- Assess and document composite errors based on the Error Correction policy
- Collaborate with colleagues globally to meet deadlines and ensure data quality
- Identify and implement process improvements, align and optimize workflows in order to meet client deliverables
- Participate in projects that affect all stakeholders including portfolio managers, client servicing, sales/marketing, and product management teams as needed
- Understand and analyze all asset classes in clients' portfolios such as equities, fixed income, real estate, hedge funds and private equity
- Respond to inquiries in timely manner
Necessary Experience and Education
- A college or university degree , preferably in finance, economics or business related discipline
- 4+ years asset management industry experience
- CIPM or CFA , or interest/progress towards obtaining
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
- Broad knowledge of investment products and accounting
- Solid understanding of GIPS reporting principles and performance attribution concepts
- Experience with performance calculations and a thorough understanding of performance inputs
- Strong analytical, logical and problem-solving skills, with excellent follow-up abilities
- Ability to prioritize and independently manage multiple deliverables simultaneously
- Ability to be highly flexible and adaptable to change
- Strong work ethic with an inherent high level of motivation
- Very detail oriented and organized
- Excellent teamwork and collaborating skills
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with common industry applications such as Aladdin, Eagle, Bloomberg, Morningstar, or similar tools
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
