Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Lead Operational Risk Officer

In this role, you will

  • Provide companywide oversight and governance of an integrated operational risk program or initiative
  • Develop and drive innovative operational risk approaches and solutions companywide through an influence model
  • Identify potential business operational risks
  • Develop and drive innovative operational risk approaches and solutions companywide through an influence model
  • Constructively and independently challenge existing risk management fundamentals or assumptions and develop alternative approaches and solutions
  • Evaluate long term implications and consequences of strategic business decisions and recommend appropriate alternatives for risk management
  • Lead implementation of complex initiatives with high risk, generally spanning multiple business lines
  • Consult to the business on corrective action plans and effectively managing change
  • Influence and negotiate with executive management and business heads as high-level stakeholders both within and outside Wells Fargo
  • Lead initiatives and virtual teams across the organization to deliver companywide business risk management transformations
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
  • Lead project or virtual teams and mentor less experienced staff

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of Operational Risk experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications

  • 11+ years of Operational Risk or Audit experience, or equivalent
  • The Senior Technology Lead Operational Risk Officer is responsible for applying independent risk management practices to ensure the Wells Fargo Technology organization is performing, functioning in a safe and sound manner and is in compliance with regulatory requirements and guidelines from multiple jurisdictions (e.g. OCC, FRB, and other regulators).
  • This role will monitor and oversee a functional unit within the Wells Fargo Technology organization.
  • They will also oversee the technology they develop and support as well as any operational risk generated from the assigned frontline technology function.
  • This individual's responsibilities include various monitoring activities and oversight responsibilities of frontline technology teams accountable to manage technology and other operational risks within established risk appetites and tolerances.
  • The individual is expected to maintain awareness, influence with senior technology executives, and escalate utilizing the Wells Fargo Risk Management Framework, policies and procedures established by Corporate Risk.

Job Expectations

  • Provide operational risk expertise and consulting to the Branch Systems and Transformation Technology business unit (includes technology that supports branches and ATMs)
  • Develop, implement, and monitor risk-based programs and metrics to identify, assess, and mitigate any operational risk that arises from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or external events
  • Utilize subject matter expertise knowledge of technology change management, application development (waterfall and/or agile), incident and problem management, system architecture, information security, data environments, data management, data quality, cloud environments, backup and disaster recovery, governance and policy management, technology infrastructure, andcontrol design and assessment expertise when participating in monitoring or oversight activities.
  • Research and assess emerging risks, escalate as necessary to the front line team
  • Develop and deliver oversight content in support of assessments and independent point of views to influence stronger risk management practices by the business
  • Analyze complex business and system changes to determine impact, identify operational risk issues and participate in the development of risk ratings
  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, systems, and internal controls
  • Consult with the business to develop corrective action plans and effectively manage change
  • Assist with monitoring and testing adherence to policies/procedures
  • Report findings and develop business cases to influence executive management, management committee member or head of business on the need for controls to mitigate risk
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
  • Independently assess, report and as necessary escalate operational risks generated by Wells Fargo Technology as well as technology risks across the company to established governing bodies up to and including the Board of Directors.
  • Maintain a balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Operational Risk Business Oversight team, Independent Risk teams, and Technology Control team

  • Experience in a risk related role, involved in Issues Management, analysis and oversight of Risk Controls, Audit, Change Management, and Business Process Management
  • Experience in process and risk management, with a focus on but not limited to any of the following Agile methodology, data mining, Mobile apps, Customer Experience
  • Knowledge of an enterprise risk management framework, including risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, risk-related decisions, processes and controls, risk analytics and governance
  • Knowledge of technology risk framework, including FFIEC, COBIT, NIST, ISO
