What We Do
Within the Asset & Wealth Management Division, strategists (also known as Strats') play important roles in research, valuation, portfolio design and construction, surveillance, and risk management analytics. A strategist will apply quantitative and data first methods to come up with solutions that are accurate, robust, and scalable.
The External Investing Group (XIG) group provides investors with investment and advisory solutions across hedge fund managers, private equity funds, public equity strategies, fixed income strategies, and real estate managers. The XIG group manages globally diversified programs, targeted sector-specific strategies, customized portfolios, and offers a range of advisory services. Our investors access opportunities through new fund commitments, fund-of-fund investments, strategic partnerships, secondary-market investments, co-investments, and seed-capital investments.With over 400 professionals across 15 offices around the world, the XIG group provides manager diligence, portfolio construction, risk management, and liquidity solutions to investors, drawing on Goldman Sachs' market insights and risk management expertise. We extend these global capabilities to the world's sovereign wealth funds, pension plans, governments, financial institutions, endowments, foundations, and family offices, for which we invest or advise on over $330bn of alternative and long only investments.
Your Impact
As a strategist, you will build high performance analytical platforms to provide insights on investor/investment returns and to help our business grow. Strat team members will assume responsibility for developing both analytics and the applications for interacting with those analytics.Strats are given ample opportunity to collaborate with the business to define creative solutions and develop novel analytical methods. The daily interactions with other team members across geographies demands an ability to communicate clearly about complex financial, business, and computational concepts. You will create advanced computational architectures and applications to meet the needs of a rapidly growing and evolving business, with a strong focus on long term sustainability and extensibility through continuous deployment, automated testing, and thorough data modeling.

Basic Qualifications
Outstanding background in a quantitative discipline
Programming expertise in a scripting language (e.g. Python, R, Matlab)
Strong general and technical communication skills, with an ability to effectively articulate complex financial and mathematical concepts
Creativity and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
3+ years of applicable experience
