What Youll Do

The Product Manager is a member of the Agile Team in our Individual Disability Insurance area and is responsible for defining and prioritizing the teams backlog to optimally elevate and execute business objectives. The Product Manager plays a meaningful role in the oversight of delivered work and is instrumental in preparation and delivery of value to our end customers, with experience working with intermediate portfolios. We are combining data, technology, and a deep understanding of our system users into insurance platforms to delight our clients!

Here are some of the things you will do

  • Show confidence in understanding disability products, product development and how it ties back to future business strategy. Embody a customer-focus over system-focus while chipping in to the vision for the product area. Be a storyteller.
  • Build positive relationships with internal and external partners to represent their needs. Communicate business and customer needs to team in a manner that simplifies complexity and eliminates jargon.
  • Responsible for backlog refinement and preparation of planned product releases which includes aggregating ideas or bets, deciphering which ideas to pursue through discovery, prioritizing these ideas into the product backlog, and ensuring the backlog represents the priorities of the business.
  • Assists in preparing work for sprint planning. Responsible for validating user stories meet the acceptance criteria and will achieve the desired outcome.
  • Assist in making decisions to enable the team to deliver quickly. Begins to serve as a subject matter expert, working across teams and functional business areas.
  • Assist in making data-driven decisions that enable the team to deliver quickly. Be comfortable with grey and not having all the answers. Make small bets and accept experimentation. Encourage small, frequent iterations versus big-bang deliveries.
  • Challenge status quo, encourage innovation, be forward-thinking and approachable. Begin to demonstrate influence with business partners for product direction.

Who You Are

We are looking for someone with

  • 2+ years of business, technology, or product management experience or equivalent demonstrated through the following work experience, military experience, or education.
  • Basic experience in a product environment and exposure to the Product Manager role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, influencing, and negotiating in a professional team environment.
  • Superb communication skills required including the ability to influence and negotiate.
  • Proven strategic thinking, collaboration and decision-making skills required.
  • Ability to define problem statements, drill down in details and ability to ask questions of business partners.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience with Disability, Life or Group Insurance product knowledge.
  • Experience with insurance, risk, or financial concepts premiums, billing, under writing, customer facing apps, policy administration, sales, or sophisticated distribution models.
  • Previous Product Owner, Business Analyst, or insurance SME experience
