Job Description

The opportunity

The Portfolio Analyst supports the Portfolio Management team in the day-to-day implementation of portfolio changes across the firm's fixed income portfolios. The incumbent will oversee and monitor operational and compliance aspects associated with the management and trading execution of fixed income securities and derivatives. The role involves daily interaction Portfolio Managers, Traders, Compliance, Operations, Portfolio Specialists and Relationship Management to coordinate all the daily requirements of portfolio management

Individual Responsibilities

  • Implement changes in the portfolios and oversee investment process from end-to-end review cash levels and flows, assist Portfolio Managers in trade allocation and processing. Oversee foreign currency and interest rate derivative positions
  • Monitor portfolios to ensure the team's investment strategy is implemented consistently across accounts, maintain oversight of portfolio risk, and analyze portfolio performance attribution in relation to market movements and guidelines
  • Act as first point of contact for Compliance issues raised on portfolios, and associated investigation and escalation

Shared Responsibilities

  • Attend investment team meetings, compile on-going information about market sentiment and trading environment and report to portfolio managers for use in investment decisions
  • Coordinate on-boarding of new accounts
  • Identify system and application issues and enhancements, and collaborate with IT teams to define requirements and develop
  • enhancements/solutions
  • Interact directly with portfolio managers on special projects that will drive investment decisions

Decision Authorities

  • Use judgement to make recommendations on cash levels and portfolio allocations for consistency across accounts and within guideline compliance
  • Create, interpret, and maintain reports on portfolio sector, duration, currency, quality and issuer exposures to ensure portfolio management team has a complete view of a portfolio's risk profile
  • Devise solutions for any operational or compliance issues raised on portfolios ensure they are resolved in a timely fashion
  • Direct internal resources across operations (country openings, derivative usage), compliance (guideline interpretation), legal (investment policy statements, counterparty agreements) and relationship/client reporting teams for the efficient on-boarding of new client accounts
  • Analyze market events, portfolio risk and performance attribution and review results with portfolio managers, which may directly impact portfolio investment strategy

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance or a related field
  • 3 years of related investment work experience
  • Knowledge of securities and the investment business and ability to apply knowledge to work assignments
  • Progress toward CFA other investment related accreditations preferred
  • Outstanding analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative
  • Able to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, responsible, organized, with excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with experience in communicating investment matters
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, databases) including familiarity with key industry related software and databases
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with and coordinate between various groups within a global organization
