Job Summary
The Paralegal will provide administrative and research support to attorneys and resolve legal issues and will work to assess customer complaints. The Paralegal works closely with lawyers in the legal department, and works with business counterparts The Paralegal prepares documents, correspondence, and maintains a filing system for customer complaints.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Under attorney supervision, prepare legal documents.
- Organize exhibits in preparation for legal proceedings.
- Gather research data, such as statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, and other documents.
- Respond to subpoenas.
- Contact and respond to questions from branches, other business areas, attorneys, and government agencies.
- Support the Legal Department by participating in intake functions, triaging incoming and pending matters, assisting with special projects, and completing high-level administrative tasks, as needed.
- Collaborate, consult, and provide information to Legal Department attorneys and staff, outside counsel and collaborate with line of business.
Qualifications
- Ability to analyze legal documents and assess whether additional documentation or information is necessary in order for the Firm to take action in a particular case.
- Ability to prioritize matters presented by third parties or internal stakeholders in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Ability to learn the various areas of the company to access information and know what documents and information are created and how to retrieve such documents or information if necessary to analyze and respond to legal documents received.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
Education & Experience
- Minimum Required Associates degree or its equivalent 3 years or more of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Preferred Experience in the Financial Industry and/or experience working in a corporate legal department.
Systems & Technology
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
