Summary

Northern Trust is seeking a strategic, innovative and results-oriented Media Relations leader to develop and execute earned media initiatives that enhance and promote Northern Trust's Wealth Management business. Northern Trust Wealth Management offers holistic wealth management services for affluent individuals and families, family offices, foundations and privately held businesses. It is recognized for its innovative technology, service excellence and depth of expertise, with more than $400 billion in assets under management as of December 31, 2023.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive media relations strategies aligned with Wealth Management's business objectives and strategic goals.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key media contacts, including journalists, editors and industry influencers.
  • Collaborate with Wealth Management marketing to align earned media with strategic marketing campaigns.
  • Collaborate on digital content strategies on social media platforms.
  • Prepare executives and subject matter experts for interviews through media coaching and consulting, along with creation of messaging and briefing documents.
  • Build strong relationships internally across all levels to gather information and find compelling stories.
  • Manage work with external PR agency.
  • Monitor media coverage and industry trends, and provide insights and analysis to senior leadership.
  • Measure and analyze the impact of media relations efforts, and adjust strategies as necessary to optimize results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism or a related field.
  • 5-10+ years of experience in media relations or corporate communications, preferably within the financial services industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing media relations campaigns and securing positive media coverage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and messages.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with experience collaborating across departments.
  • Proficiency in media monitoring and analytics tools, along with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and navigate complex issues with integrity and professionalism.
  • Understanding of crisis communications and managing reputational risk
