Manager, Treasury Back Office

Description

Responsible for managing a Team supporting Northern Trust's own Treasury department's funding, balance sheet management and liquidity/interest rate risk management strategies. The Treasury Back Office (TBO) Manager has a Team of 4 directs with close partnership with the broader Treasury Operations team including the Treasury Middle Office (TMO) and Treasury Derivative Operations (TDO) domestically and London's Treasury Operations team internationally - all working toward the common goal of supporting a complex investment and hedge portfolio. Success in this role will be a combination of leading a Team of operational professionals along with displaying an intellectual curiosity with a focus on managing risk and continuous improvement across all processes that impact our key stakeholder NT's Corporate Treasury.

Major Duties

  • Responsible for leading the Team supporting the domestic clearing and maintenance of Northern Trust's security portfolio coordinating with the Settlements team (Fed, DTCC, & FICC).
  • Ensuring the Team perform the critical task of reporting how the security portfolio is encumbered under a wide array of collateral relationships.
  • Operates within and has in-depth knowledge of business unit, specific area of expertise and strong knowledge in accounting and general ledger processes.
  • Strategic in developing new controls collaborating with the TMO and driving projects forward that will optimize TBO processes with the goal of converting manual processes into critical analytical tools.
  • Works closely with our Middle Office executing on regulatory and audit deliverables
  • Collaborates with Senior Partners helping with business continuity planning/testing, resiliency and RCSA analyses.
  • Responsible for direct interaction with various governance committees and/or senior management

Qualifications

  • A College or University degree and 5+ years relevant proven work experience
  • Accounting experience involving fixed income securities (assets and liabilities) is required hedge accounting a plus.
  • In-depth Functional / Industry Knowledge is required specific to fixed income derivatives and securities including repos, reverse repos and mortgage backed securities
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to change
  • Experience with business process and/or technology enhancement initiatives
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
