Manages a team of AI Research scientists responsible for a portfolio of diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics projects to support data-driven business decision making. Supports the continuous evolution and strategy of Vanguards data science capabilities.

Core Responsibilities

1. Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.

2. Oversees and engages in deep dive diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to support data-driven business decision making. Creates alternative model approaches to assess complex model design and advance future capabilities.

3. Manages a team of research scientists responsible for a portfolio of AI research driven enterprise product, predictive, and prescriptive analytics projects to support data-driven business decision making. Supports the continuous evolution and strategy of Vanguards data science capabilities.

4. Identifies and diagnoses data inconsistencies and errors, documents data assumptions, and forages to fill data gaps.

5. Engages with internal stakeholders to understand and probe business processes in order to develop hypotheses. Brings structure to requests and translates requirements into an analytic approach.

6. Guides test design, research design, and model validation. Provides statistical consultation services. Serves as the analytics expert on cross functional teams for large strategic initiatives and contributes to the growth of the Vanguard analytic community.

7. Executes operational plans to achieve department objectives. Collaborates with department or functional heads in planning, developing, and executing near-term goals.

8. Prepares, reviews, and delivers insight presentations and action recommendations. Communicates complex analytical findings and implications to business leaders.

9. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years related work experience in analytical roles. Experience with data wrangling required - Programming skills to access, transform and prepare large scale data for statistical modeling. Experience utilizing statistical and machine learning methods required.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field of study such as Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Electrical & Computer Engineering.
  • At least 3+ years of experience in
  • AI
  • /ML research in
  • industry or academic setting.
  • Experience with machine learning development lifecycle and deep learning methods such as GNN, Knowledge Graph, Transformers,
  • GANs

  • , Counterfactuals and Adversarial examples etc.
  • Strong software engineering capabilities and hands-on experience with various machine learning and deep learning frameworks including
  • numpy

  • A strong understanding of the real-world advantages and drawbacks of various algorithms and the ability to measure success
  • Ability to write clean, understandable code that follows leading industry standards and practices and is well-documented, and to build easily reproducible models
