The Lead Specialist, Data Management (DMS) Technology will help develop and deliver the multi-year roadmap and Data Quality Management Plan (DQMP) for the Technology Data and Analytics Organization(TDAO) at Northern Trust (NT), from the ground up. The DMS will partner with IT application teams, data owners, data custodians, data stewards, and data consumers to improve data management and quality in technology applications and data sets across the data supply chain. Among other things, they will support data governance, data architecture and data analytics with establishing, monitoring rules for critical and material Data Elements, data storage, and integration. They will setup the framework and methodology for data management, issue detection, drive root cause identification and remediation for identified data quality gaps. The DMS will enable completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, validity and uniqueness in NT Technology data. They shall be competent in leading and delivering large scale, multi-year data management and quality initiatives in a highly matrixed environment. This role will benefit from having a high-level understanding of data governance, data architecture, analytics, technology, privacy, risk, information security and is responsible for day-to-day logistics of driving data management adoption across technology. They will partner with data and analytics team members, CIO/CTO stakeholder teams, and Enterprise Data Governance.
Responsibilities include
- Help develop, maintain and drive adoption of data quality roadmap, policies, standards and procedures
- Utilize technology capabilities to maximize automation of data quality management
- Champion technology/tool opportunities to improve data quality
- Foster a collaborative, outcome driven environment, rooted in increasing trust in data
- Manage multiple small-medium data management initiatives
- Establish data management framework and methodologies
- Run data management working group and council
- Support the documentation and escalation of risks, issues, actions, & decisions
- Implement KPIs to measure and communicate data management health and adoption across the organization
- Implement and promote a data quality culture, improve data literacy through learning & development
- Support the creation and facilitation of vendor SOWs, RFPs, and project change requests for data quality needs
Skills
- 15+ years total experience with 5+ years in banking, technology
- Demonstrated success in data management improvements
- Growth mindset, demonstrating continuous improvement
- Established and built data quality function from the ground up
- Simultaneously managed multiple small-medium initiatives in a matrixed organization
- Collibra data quality experience strongly preferred
- Data Governance familiarity is a strong plus
- Data analytics and data knowledge (w/ SQL skills) is a plus
- Prior experience managing a small team is a plus
