Company Overview
Blackstone Europe Fund Management S. r.l. (BEFM) is a private limited liability company (socit responsibilit limite) notably subject to the Law of 10 August 1915 on commercial companies, as amended from time to time and to the AIFM Law. BEFM is authorized by the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) as (i) a management company under Article 101(2) (Chapter 15) of the Law of 17 December 2010 on undertakings for collective investment, as amended (the UCI Law) and (ii) an alternative investment fund manager in accordance with the Law of 12 July 2013 on alternative investment fund managers, as amended (the AIFM Law).
BEFM manages UCITS and alternative investment funds (AIFs) in a variety of asset classes including private equity, real estate, credit and hedge fund solutions. BEFM is also authorized to manage separately managed accounts (SMAs) with a combination of these asset classes.
Job Responsibilities
The role will be a senior member of the International Finance team and will report to the head of Finance, Valuation and Risk Management, based in Luxembourg. He / she will co-lead the Risk Management team, jointly with another Vice-President, responsible for
Risk management
- Responsible for monitoring, assessing, and managing risks that may adversely impact BEFM and its managed funds
- Establishing and maintaining an effective and adequate risk management framework for managed funds and BEFM as company to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Implementing and maintaining robust and effective risk management procedures, policies, systems, and governance processes.
- Defining and maintaining fund and enterprise risk profiles.
- Contributing in the production and review of fund and enterprise risk reports.
- Due diligence on illiquid investment opportunities
- Responsible for the monitoring of compliance with investment restrictions. Collaborating and liaising with various departments, to manage identified risks and potential breaches of investment restrictions, and to determine mitigation factors and corrective actions to be implemented.
- Leading and actively participating in global and local risk management initiatives and projects.
Governance and reporting to senior management
- Ensuring a robust control environment for all risk management matters, to ensure compliance with all relevant obligations.
- Dealing with internal and external audit requests related to the risk management activity.
- Coordinating and ensuring a timely delivery of high-quality risk management analysis and reporting to the senior management and governing bodies.
- Reviewing and presenting results of the risk management monitoring to the Management Committee meetings and BEFM & Fund Board Meetings.
- Responsible for dealing with regulators for risk management matters (e.g., CSSF, CBI, ESMA).
Team management
- Effective and efficient operations co-management of the BEFM Risk team, ensuring that responsibilities and tasks are appropriately assigned, including but not limited to, presenting and interaction with senior management, coordinating resources and deliverables, presentation reviews, procedure documentation and completion of ad hoc deliverables.
- Managing the team, actively coaching, developing, leading in order to have a fully engaged and motivated team.
- Leading and participating in re-engineering initiatives to drive enhancements, supporting the launch of new investment structures and the onboarding of delegates, and actively participating in Blackstone Technology operating and development priorities.
- Foster collaboration with local and offshore teams. Working closely with the other Blackstone teams to solve problems, achieve results and develop best practices.
Qualifications & Skills
Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who work well in a team, are highly motivated, with a sound judgment and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors.
- Master's Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or similar discipline (CFA, CAIA, FRM being considered as an asset).
- +10 years of relevant financial services industry experience (including a prior experience in a Big 4 or similar and within an AIFM or Management Company) with deep understanding of risk management techniques and methods (i.e., value-at-Risk, stress testing, liquidity modeling, counterparty risk).
- Strong leadership skills with ability to effectively manage, coach and support staff (incl. onshore and offshore staff) with at least 4+ years of hands-on experience managing a team
- Strong knowledge of the local regulatory requirements applicable to the risk management activity subject to AIFMD and/or UCITS regulatory requirements (for Luxembourgish and/or Irish funds).
- Proficiency in MS Excel and MS PowerPoint required (ability to produce creative, compelling, detailed reporting materials). Strong appetite to use of technology, and to develop skills on new IT platforms.
- Collaborative team player with confidence to build relationships and be the primary contact point for a range of senior stakeholders.
- Fluent in English, both written and oral.
- Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to adapt in a dynamic environment
- Thinks strategically and is focused on the bigger picture generates & executes creative solutions to challenges & new business initiatives
- Ability to multi-task and execute a wide range of assignments, strong time management skills, and attention to detail
