Job Description

Seeking an experienced Associate to join BEFM Risk Management team (BEFM Risk). The main responsibility will be to monitor, assess, and manage risks that may have a negative impact on BEFM-managed UCITS funds. The Associate will also provide significant support in risk management activities for alternative investment strategies.

Responsibilities

In this role, the Associate will play a pivotal role in the BEFM Risk Management team, ensuring the effective and thorough identification, monitoring, and assessment of risks. They will be responsible for comprehensive and accurate reporting to governing bodies. The Associate will be responsible for carrying out best-in-class risk analysis on BEFM Risk's full range of activities covering risk management and investment fund compliance matters.

  • monitoring and assessing risks associated with BEFM-managed UCITS funds. This involves preparing materials and reports for relevant stakeholders such as BEFM Management Committee, BEFM Board, Fund Boards, EU/local regulators. The Associate will also be responsible for implementing risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions, after proper escalation of the issue to the Conducting Officer Risk and or the Risk Manager. Additionally, they will support BEFM Risk in monitoring and assessing risks related to BEFM-managed AIFs that employ liquid and semi-liquid investment strategies.
  • UCITS & AIFs risk management
  • monitoring of compliance with investment restrictions and guidelines for UCITS and AIFs. The Associate will identify potential breaches, both active and passive, and escalate them to the Risk Manager. They will liaise with internal and/or external investment managers, manage corrective actions, and provide support to other teams in assessing the financial impact and potential compensation to investors.
  • UCITS & AIFs investment fund compliance
  • coordinating and supporting other teams in ensuring accurate and timely regulatory reporting to local/EU regulators and investors. This includes reporting obligations such as semi-annual UCITS risk reporting with the CSSF, PRIIPS KID, and AIFMD Annex IV reporting.
  • UCITS & AIFs Reporting
  • assisting BEFM Risk in maintaining and developing an effective risk framework. This involves updating and reviewing policies, procedures, and risk profiles in accordance with latest regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Governance
  • overseeing risk processes that may be partially supported by internal and/or external teams. The Associate will ensure robust due diligence procedures, strong operational processes, accurate risk modeling, and effective escalation procedures.

Qualifications & Skills

Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who work well in a team, are highly motivated, with a sound judgment and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors.

  • Master's Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Financial engineering, or a related discipline
  • 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in the financial services industry, such as UCITS Management Company, AIFM, or Risk Advisory role. A prior experience in a Big 4 is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of risk management techniques and methods, including Value-at-Risk, stress testing, liquidity modeling, and counterparty risk
  • Excellent knowledge of the local/EU regulatory requirements related to UCITS domiciled in Luxembourg and/or Ireland. Familiarity with regulatory requirements for AIFs is considered as an asset.
  • Good understanding of regulations and reporting obligations applicable to OTC derivatives and SFTs (i.e., EMIR, SFTR)
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint is essential. Knowledge of IT languages like VBA, SQL, and experience with tools like Tableau or PowerBI is a plus.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative team player with a resourceful mindset and a focus on efficiency
  • Demonstrates ownership and accountability, manages work independently and knows when to escalate matters
