We are seeking a Head of Insurance Strategy, to lead a newly created team with global responsibility of strategists with primary responsibility to develop and drive all business strategies to grow significant market share across the Insurance client segment globally. This Insurance centre of excellence, will work closely with Global Client Coverage Group (CCG) colleagues to engage with Insurance clients on product needs, investment topics, competitive intelligence and asset allocation ideas to drive a solution-oriented approach while delivering SSGA investment capabilities. The role is based in New York, NY or Boston, MA.
The Head of Insurance Strategy will demonstrate expertise of the Insurance client sector, alongside an understanding of what considerations this client group needs to address when making investment decisions. Have the ability to take a portfolio approach with Insurance companies to discuss multi-asset exposures and position appropriate insurance sensitive investment solutions, across equities, fixed income, alternatives, real assets, commodities, and currencies. Ability to generate insights from clients and CCG coverage to work in partnership with key internal stakeholder teams to deliver best in class Investment solutions to Insurance clients globally. With the growth into ETFs and portfolio solutions, ETF Education, the development of use cases for the efficacy of ETF's as a tool for portfolio construction will be a core competency across the team.
You will build strong relationships with other investment research teams within the firm and Client Coverage team as the owner for Insurance client relationships, to help shape and drive the overall Insurance strategy for the firm.
Using strong insurance investment expertise and understanding of macro theory and insurance regulatory developments and constraints, your work enhances the product positioning of SSGA Investment solutions, including ETFs. To do so, you will generate thought-provoking investment content on the insurance market, the role of ETFs in Insurance portfolios, trends within macroeconomic factors, real assets, commodities, and currencies. You will be an educator and trusted investment solution provider, helping our clients and delivering domain knowledge expertise to exceed client expectations.
As Head of Insurance Strategy, you will
- Define, drive and lead the strategy in partnership with CCG to grow market share of AUM from Insurance clients globally.
- Generate thought-provoking investment content in the insurance market, the role of ETFs for Insurance client portfolios, trends within macroeconomic factors, regulatory developments as well as the ability to discuss different implementation strategies / ETF use cases for Insurance clients, addressing client questions proactively.
- Work closely with CCG to engage with Insurance clients globally on product needs, investment topics and asset allocation ideas to drive solution-oriented approach to delivering SSGA investment capabilities.
- Demonstrate deep understanding of Insurance client needs, is on top of regulatory developments, trends in asset allocation or development of appropriate wrapper use cases and providing appropriate education and support into CCG who will own the Insurance client relationships.
- Take ownership of positioning investment solutions and provide appropriate training and materials to support strategy for Client Coverage colleagues
- Oversee the messaging and provide inputs to marketing materials and RFPs targeted towards Insurance clients.
- Provide topical market and strategy updates to business office and client coverage colleagues on a regular basis.
- Keep abreast of industry, market and company trends, and partner with business leaders to understand key concerns and opportunities for each line of business tailor analysis and synthesis around these topics
- Ability to collaborate for success globally and across all relevant stakeholder groups internally and externally to collaborate for market share growth in this client segment.
- Collaborate with Markets Intelligence to provide competitive intelligence for business leadership, partners, and other internal stakeholders on the insurance industry, ETFs, and buying behavior patterns of competing ETF strategies applicable to the Insurance clients.

- Have an in-depth understanding of total portfolio construction investment theory, macroeconomic policy, and experience with real assets, liquid alternative strategies, commodities, and currencies
- Knowledge of quantitative investment techniques and an understanding of the use of derivatives in-and-out of the context of ETFs
- Build use cases for using ETFs as financial instruments and for implementing strategies advantageous to an insurance portfolio
- Strong written and communications skills for frequent external and internal presentations.
- The capacity to develop and sustain strong working partnerships with our marketing, product and investment teams
Education & Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 12 years of financial services experience.
- Experience of working in insurance solutions at a global asset manager or insurance company are advantageous
- Current securities licenses (Series 24, 7 and Series 63) required or willingness to acquire as a role requirement.
- Clean compliance and U4 record required
- Deep insights into Insurance regulatory regime requirements in key jurisdictions and impact of investment solutions on insurance company investments.
- Expertise in Insurance market regulations are a pre-requisite and regulatory understanding of this landscape globally are advantageous
- Knowledge of Bloomberg and its applicability to insurance clients
- Published author of a blog, white-paper, article, media appearances or other investment content available to the insurance investment community
- Available for travel regionally and globally as required
- Knowledge of Insurance market, ETF use cases and applicability in Insurance company portfolios, as well as strong track record of demonstrated ability to engage at senior level on portfolio construction topics with investors.
- Critical understanding of macroeconomics, financial theory and empirical research
- In-depth knowledge of ETFs and other investment vehicles
- Excellent communications skills to present sophisticated solutions to client
- Ability to work efficiently with and influence internal and external partners
- Positive attitude with a strong team orientation, and is enthusiastic to educate team members and clients, whilst developing and nurturing talent based in other geographical locations.
