The Head of Gold Strategy leads a team of strategists focused on providing market strategy, investment research and portfolio construction insights for our suite of SPDR Gold ETFs. The role is based in New York, NY or Boston, MA.

The Head of Gold Strategy will demonstrate expertise on the case for gold and its role alongside other asset classes in portfolios, such as equities, bonds, alternatives, real assets, commodities, and currencies. Insights will be driven by the teams' proprietary research, working alongside a larger research team dedicated to ETFs and market outlooks. You will build strong relationships with other investment research teams within the firm and our partners at the World Gold Council to foster collaboration and help shape and drive the overall gold strategy for the firm.

Using strong investment merits and understanding of macroeconomic theory, your work enhances the product positioning of State Street SPDR ETFs. To do so, you will generate thought-provoking investment content on the gold market, the role of gold in portfolios, trends within related macroeconomic factors, real assets, commodities, and currencies, as well as the different implementation strategies for gold-backed ETFs, helping to educate our clients and promote ETFs relative to other investment vehicles.

As Head of Gold Strategy, you will

  • Generate thought-provoking, compelling, and timely investment content on the gold market, the role of gold in portfolios, trends within macroeconomic factors, real assets, commodities, and currencies, as well as the different implementation strategies for gold-backed ETFs
  • Utilize strong communications skills for frequent external and internal presentations, including client-facing opportunities, industry events, and virtual webinars to promote your work and insights related to market commentary and investment research
  • Build and sustain strong working partnerships with our partners, marketing, product and investment teams, including planning for go-to-market strategies, research agendas, and client engagement tactics
  • Lead and organize competitive intelligence for business leadership, partners, and other internal stakeholders on the gold industry, ETFs, and buying behavior patterns of competing ETF strategies
  • Leverage expertise and market views to lead input for gold marketing campaigns, messaging, and initiatives across various client segment audiences (institutional, financial advisors, due diligence teams, ETF models) around benefits of gold ETFs and portfolio investment.

These skills will help you succeed in this role

  • The ability to discuss cross-asset investment concepts, as well as have a considerable understanding of portfolio construction techniques, including trading implementation strategies
  • A complete understanding of the benefits of the ETF structure and how it functions in the secondary and primary markets
  • Have an in-depth understanding of total portfolio construction investment theory, macroeconomic policy, and experience with real assets, liquid alternative strategies, commodities, and currencies
  • Knowledge of quantitative investment techniques and an understanding of the use of derivatives in-and-out of the context of ETFs
  • Strong written and communications skills for frequent external and internal presentations.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 7-10 years of investment experience
  • CFA and/or MBA required
  • Current securities licenses (Series 7 and Series 63) required
  • Clean compliance and U4 record required
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg, R, Tableau, and FactSet
  • Knowledge of risk modelling techniques
  • Published author of a blog, white-paper, article, or other investment content
  • Ability to formulate and articulate compelling,
  • analytically-supported
  • Available for travel 25-50%
  • Knowledge of gold, alternatives, and dedicated portfolio construction topics
  • Critical understanding of macroeconomics, financial theory and empirical research
  • In-depth knowledge of ETFs and other investment vehicles
  • Excellent communications skills to concisely deliver sophisticated topics both written and verbally
  • Ability to work efficiently with and influence internal and external partners
  • Positive attitude with a strong team orientation, and is enthusiastic to educate team members and clients
