Global Tax Planning, Assistant Vice President

Job Title

Description

We are currently seeking an Assistant Vice President of Tax who will report directly to the Vice President responsible for Blackstone's Regulated Investment Companies and to the Managing Director of Credit Tax. This position assumes ownership of a wide range of functions including tax research, planning, diligence, and compliance primarily related to credit focused Regulated Investment Companies. Specific emphasis on the following

  • Deal-by-Deal Analysis

U.S. vs. non-U.S. QII application and income sourcing, adherence to investment guidelines, Subchapter M considerations, portfolio company tax diligence, state and local income sourcing, and material debt modifications

  • Active Involvement with Non-Tax Teams

Investor Relations, Private Wealth Services, Accounting, Business Development, New Product Creation, Legal, Deals/Investment Teams, Treasury, and Valuations

  • Preparation of and/or initial review

Quarterly and annual RIC qualification tests, tax characterization forecasting of BDC monthly and quarterly distribution payments, offshore investor tax distribution estimates and communications, year-end shareholder reporting (E&P, Interest-Related Dividends, ICI Spreadsheets, Forms 1099, and Forms 1042-S), BDC tax workpapers and disclosures supporting various required SEC (10-K, 10-Q, Annual, and Semi-Annual) and tax filings (Federal, Excise, State, and Local)

  • Valued Tax Advisor

Engage in open dialogue with tax VP in order to collaborate, diligence, and problem solve various tax related hurdles, issues, or concepts as a team. Owning new opportunities and special projects. Educating non-tax, tax, and other non-BX third-parties on RIC/BDC and RIC/BDC related tax concepts.

Qualifications

We are looking for a motivated, diligent, and hard-working team player to work with existing Vice President of tax. Candidate should be organized, eager to learn, exhibit strong interpersonal skills, and ideally

  • Must have 4+ years tax experience from Big4 or relevant industry
  • Must have Regulated Investment Company experience
    • Must be proficient with asset diversification test, gross income test, fiscal and excise distribution requirements, 10-K/Annual filing tax footnote disclosures, and the 1120-RIC and 8613 returns
    • Understands the implications of investing in a RIC for taxable, tax-exempt, and non-U.S. investors
    • BDC experience is a benefit, but is not required
  • Should be familiar with tax concepts associated with investing in debt instruments
  • Must be motivated, well organized, and have a high attention to detail
  • Displays strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Possesses strong Excel skills
  • Alteryx or other software proficiency is a plus, but not required

Expected annual base salary range

Additional compensation Base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits offered in connection with the advertised role.

Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individuals experience, skills, qualifications and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process based on local market comparables.
