Role Purpose

This role leads and manages a multi-jurisdictional team focused on executing State Street's Risk Excellence program within the areas of business controls, governance, regulatory related initiatives and business resiliency to set standards, drive efficiency, conformance and consistency across Operations and Technologies. The role will report to the Chief Operations Officer and will lead and manage a robust regional first line assurance program and manages corporate initiatives such as AML and Governance transformation programs to enable best in class control environments. The role supports all global locations our Operation and Technology groups reside and a staff base of around ~20,00 staff.This is a Boston based role.

Major Responsibilities

  • Influence senior business leaders and drive risk perspective, risk accountability and risk culture throughout the Bank
  • Provide direction to Division Risk Managers to maintain an integrated and consistent approach to risk identification, monitoring, measurement, issue management, and reporting
  • Work with all 3 lines of defense functions to implement consistent risk management processes related to risk identification, risk assessment, issue management, reporting, and training
  • Lead the on-going documentation, review and implementation of business controls by leveraging best practices internally and externally to establish an effective first line of defense for the Asia pacific region across all business lines and corporate support functions.
  • Lead regional management routines with a view to understand and monitor risks, effectiveness of controls and proactive testing and failure modes.
  • Collaborate closely with Compliance and Audit to ensure clear delineation of roles and optimum coordination among the three lines of defense.
  • Collaborate closely with the Regulatory, Industry and Government Affairs Office and the Legal Entity Oversight Committee to establish efficient and effective governance standards and face off with the regulators as appropriate.
  • Lead and manage all functions through a combination of direct and matrix management reporting lines.
  • Proactively and continuously seek to identify and implement best practices, policies and procedures.
  • Creatively align resources to be efficient and productive while delivering business value.

Key background requirements

  • Previous experience of managing a control environment, preferably in a heavily regulated global business.
  • Experience with operating in a highly matrixed environment and being able to deliver business results in rapid growth/change environments.
  • Strong leadership skills with a passion for leading, developing and engaging large, diverse teams
  • Proven client service and relationship management skills

  • Strong operations knowledge and commercial acumen
