Seeking an experienced operational risk professional to join our Embedded Risk Management (ERM) team within the Global Banking and Markets (GBM) organization. In this role, you will support our front to back business franchise to manage and improve our operational risk profile. Your opportunity for high visibility impact includes analyzing the key risks and controls managed by GBM teams, dynamically responding to emerging risks, applying risk management tools to monitor and communicate to the leadership group, and sharing best practices to continuously improve risk management culture and the control environment.

Our team of risk specialists is aligned with our Equities or FICC sales and trading groups to deliver an integrated approach to serving our global client franchise. The ERM employs the components of the Risk Management Framework to continuously measure and assess levels of risk for existing/new processes for the businesses we support. In addition to being affiliated with specific product and/or functional areas, ERM partners with the Operations Risk Management (ORM) organization in order to improve consistency of risk measure and assessment practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advise, challenge, inform line teams on recommended ways to mitigate risk review action items to ensure that risk is being sufficiently addressed
  • Manage operational risk events front to back developing and implementing remediation action items with key stakeholders while adhering to firm reporting guidelines
  • Lead emerging market event and exposure scenarios where operational risk expertise is required (Sanctions / Default / Counterparty Events)
  • Provide risk expertise in support of new businesses, acquisitions, and functional or regional process migrations
  • Act as a culture carrier by embedding in the team or region propagate a risk mind-set and awareness of the Risk Framework amongst staff
  • Identify ways to share risk best practice across teams and functions, and with other business lines where like processes exist/there is exposure to similar risk
  • Run regular risk meetings to review exception landscape across your business units, ask probing questions to establish potential market, client, and other risks which may be contained within our workflows
  • Be comfortable leading coordination across teams during market events to manage information exchange and triage emerging risk
  • Challenge the status quo challenge the risk and control framework to further enhance the control environment. Work outside business unit and divisional boundaries to manage and improve the risk profile commercially
  • Partner with the business lines to understand the residual risks that exist after issues are resolved and engage with Engineering and cross asset teams to apply lessons learned to improve our risk and control framework
  • Risk Analysis work with regional and functional groups to develop key risk indicators which can be used to monitor operational risk. Use these to drive the risk agenda with the leadership group, highlight areas of concerns and partner with line managers to develop, execute and monitor progress on remediation plans.
  • Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) work with line managers in ensuring the quarterly RCSA risk and control review accurately reflects the current risk environment and quality of operational controls. During these reviews, define thematic RCSA issues to help structure remediation plans regarding significant open risks or control deficiencies.
  • Work closely with other risk managers across locations supporting Front Office, Operations, and Engineering to share key initiatives and develop integrated risk solutions

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

This role requires an energetic self-starter that can liaise with various Global Banking and Markets teams both regionally and globally. Solid understanding of the Global Banking and Markets franchise offered by the Firm and experience within a risk management context are required. Strong interpersonal and analytical skills along with an interest in the broader control environment within financial services are essential to succeed in this role.

  • Excellent communication skills to clearly articulate issues and ideas with different levels across Global Banking and Markets stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to understand complex workflows, and excellent attention to details.
  • Innovative, including a keen eye for identifying areas of control enhancements and automation which have practical value. Good influencing skills to challenging the status quo and continuously enhance the control environment. There is also opportunity within the role to learn and apply advanced analytics software to develop low code risk management solutions.
  • Ability to perform data analytics using metrics to identify trends and themes.
  • Sound time management skills to be able to effectively prioritize and multi-task.
  • Drive and motivation to improve personal performance, broaden knowledge, work intensely towards extremely challenging goals and persist in the face of obstacles or setbacks
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills to collaborate as a global team and build strong relationship with key stakeholders across Divisions.
  • Keeps current with emerging business, economic and market trends

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Solid knowledge & experience in the Financial Industry.
  • Practical experience working in Operations and with sales and trading.
  • Project management skills
  • Risk management certifications, such as CERP
