We are seeking a Communications Specialist to join our New York Life Group Benefit Solutions (GBS) team. The GBS Communications Specialist role will report to the Employee Engagement Lead within the Learning & Knowledge Management Center of Excellence and be responsible for partnering with leaders across the GBS business to develop content resources that drive greater employee awareness, alignment, and engagement.
Our ideal candidate is an experienced, and passionate communications professional with a people-centered approach and strong written, visual, and interpersonal communication skills. As the GBS Communications Specialist, you will partner with Corporate Communications, Employee Engagement, and business leaders to develop people-centered content that supports our internal goal of Empowering, enabling, and developing our people and our culture. This will include the development of tools, templates, and resources that help the business deliver more consistent, connected, and impactful communications as well as training to upskill employees across the organization on communication best practices.
Role Objectives
- Create a more connected communication experience across the different business units, ultimately promoting greater collaboration, cross-functional teamwork, and a culture of belonging.
- Train and upskill employees across the organization on communication best practices to ensure more effective writing and delivery of content across a range of channels.
- Drive greater communication innovation using new tools and technology to develop more people-centered communications through video, apps, etc.
- Measure effectiveness and impact of GBS communications through tracking and analysis of quantitative and qualitative feedback to pinpoint critical areas for action and improvement.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop and execute internal communication plans for the GBS sub-departments that align with GBS Employee Engagement strategy, business objectives, and NYL values.
- Create engaging communication materials for various communication channels including newsletters, intranet, email announcements, PowerPoint presentations, videos, and more.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information and insights for communication initiatives, ensuring alignment with overall business goals.
- Produce video content to effectively convey key messages, company updates, training materials, and other internal communications.
- Partner withMultimedia Team to develop high-quality video and graphics as needed for GBS communications and content.
- Develop and manage GBS communication guidelines, best practices, and tools for business partners, especially those who have been identified as key communicators within their business units or who serve roles as communication authors, editors, and distributors.
- Manage the ongoing governance of GBS communication resources (guidelines, best practices, and tools) to help managers better support and connect with their employees.
- Partner with Learning Experience to train business partners on the skills and tools to deliver effective, people-centered communication.
- Provide guidance and support to identified communication resources within each business unit on communication best practices, including messaging, tone, and channel selection.
- Develop and maintain a communications calendar in partnership with NYL Corporate Communications and the GBS business.
- Assist in coordinating and executing employee engagement initiatives and events with focus on effective communication and engagement.
- Build connections and work collaboratively with colleagues across the GBS business and within Corporate Communications, Human Resources, NYL Foundation, etc.
- Leverage feedback, best practices, and expertise to provide best-in-class communications support.
- Monitor and analyze communication metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of internal communication strategies and make recommendations for improvement.
- Act as a brand ambassador by ensuring consistency and adherence to brand guidelines in all internal communications and video content.

- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Organizational Development, Journalism, or related field.
- 5+ years of employee communications and/or applicable experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a people-centered approach.
- Creative mindset with a passion for storytelling and visual communication.
- Experience creating impactful and engaging communications, templates, and tools for a range of audiences across a range of platforms (email, video, podcast, etc.)
- Ability to deliver effective training and information sessions both live and recorded.
- Strong leadership skills able to connect with and inspire teams, lead them through change, see the larger picture, and make informed decisions.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, fostering positive relationships with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated eagerness to identify and solve problems.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Well-organized with strong attention to detail, delivering high-quality work on time and with excellence.
- Strategic thinker with excellent writing, listening, presentation, and storytelling skills.
- Agile mindset with ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to foster an inclusive and engaging environment.
- Familiarity with communication measurement and analytics tools a plus.
- Certification and/or experience with Human Centered Design and/or Change Management preferred.
Full-time work at home position. Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time.
