FinTech Data Scientist

Supports Vanguards mission of exploring FinTech technologies that could dramatically improve investment performance or make capital markets work better and fosters a culture of innovation. Identifies potential experiments with financial technology related to alternative data sources, predictive analytics, and machine learning. Executes experiments with increased complexity and is responsible for growing the organizations data science capabilities and tool sets through coaching other crew.

Core Responsibilities

  • Executes the strategic direction of FinTech program to implement new data strategies.
  • Acquires structured and unstructured data and prepares it for analysis. Investigates, extracts, cleans, transforms, and manages data using a variety of approaches.
  • Creates and maintains FinTech data architecture, software, and model libraries, and process routines.
  • Conceptualizes, codes, and implements new analytic processes for FinTech using big data technologies.
  • Uses statistical and machine learning applications to unearth insights in the investment landscape.
  • Develops and optimizes process and data architectures, data preparation, and normalization processes, and feature engineering techniques.
  • Explores developing financial technologies and data science techniques and machine learning applications.
  • Continues to develop deep knowledge of financial markets and market structure changes in order to bring an informed perspective to current financial technology landscape.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other areas of Vanguard. Anticipates researchers, traders, and portfolio managers needs and ensures their satisfaction related to the services being provided.

Qualifications

  • Three plus years of experience in a technical or related financial subject area or combination of education and certifications.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Graduate degree in a quantitative subject area preferred.
