GOLDMAN SACHS FIRM OVERVIEW
ROLE DESCRIPTION
- Investor Relations works closely with C-suite executives to shape the firm's external engagement strategy (including with equity and debt investors, research analysts, rating agencies, and ESG-focused stakeholders). Investor Relations also partners with key internal constituents on strategic planning, competitive positioning, and capital and resource management
- This is a unique position that allows candidates to develop an Investment Banking valuation and modelling skill-set, as well as a broader markets perspective, while also gaining exposure to senior management and external stakeholders
- The role will provide exposure to the breadth and complexity of activities at Goldman Sachs, and will require sustained interaction with senior business and firm leadership
- On any given day, work could include supporting a transformational growth initiative for the firm, communicating our strategy to key shareholders or other external stakeholders, assessing investment opportunities, preparing senior leadership for public events, and more
Equity and Debt Investor Relations
- Manage relationships with key constituents, including GS senior management, sell-side research analysts and buy-side investors
- Evaluate GS and global competitors from an investment and strategic perspective, both quantitatively and qualitatively
- Build and maintain financial models focusing on earnings, balance sheet metrics and valuation
- Develop specific expertise on multiple competitors, closely monitoring news, performance and investor presentations and proactively sharing information with the Investor Relations team and senior management
- Research and create regular strategic analyses for business leadership addressing relevant market topics including valuation, returns, volatility, business performance, consensus expectations, earnings takeaways, et cetera
- Prepare presentation materials for equity research conferences, senior business managers and investors
- Participate in firmwide due diligence with key business managers to stay abreast of company specific and industry trends
Rating Agencies
- Manage rating agency relationships with the firm and GS senior management
- Perform fundamental credit analysis on Goldman Sachs and its peer group and closely monitor industry trends, balance sheet statistics, strategic initiatives, business mix, external messaging and credit ratings
- Evaluate GS and peer credit ratings relative to fundamental analytics and market-based ratings
- Create analyses for senior management addressing key themes in rating agency research, global rating trends and critical credit metrics emphasized by each of the agencies
- Coordinate presentation materials for quarterly rating agency meetings and other presentations
ESG
- Engage with investors, rating agencies, proxy advisors and other ESG-focused stakeholders through regular calls and meetings, as well as attendance at external events, on key ESG issues
- Develop deep understanding of ESG risks and opportunities play integral role in creating the firm's external messaging
- Create presentations, analyses, and talking points that address GS' ESG profile, investor views, and peer trends
- Proactively research and monitor key ESG issues and trends through participation in webinars, conferences, news monitoring, and industry analysis disseminate key takeaways on a real-time basis
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated proficiency in finance, accounting, economics and markets
- Strong knowledge of and interest in capital markets and the financial services industry
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- High level of Excel and PowerPoint competency
- Confidence and ability to interact effectively with senior firm leadership
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet competing deadlines
- Ability to think strategically and analytically, and to review and synthesize information and form independent judgements
