As a Claim Director, you will be a part of the Disability Income Claims leadership team and responsible for the overall management and supervision of Individual Disability Income, Life Waiver of Premium, and Long-Term Care claims. Our Directors oversee the daily review, adjudication, and payment of claims across various product lines.

The Team

Our claim department consists of claim supervisors, claim examiners, medical consultants, vocational consultants, and financial consultants. You will also have the opportunity to work with many areas across the company including Underwriting, Post Issue, and our Legal team. Our Directors are accountable for leading teams to help us reach our goals. They foster an innovative and creative culture, create a positive work environment to motivate teams and overcome obstacles.

The Impact

As a Claim Director, you will be responsible for

  • Hiring, retention and development of claims talent.
  • Formally leading, guiding, mentoring, and coaching claim examiners in both technical and professional skills.
  • Cultivating an environment conducive to continuous improvement and root cause problem solving activities.
  • Ensuring the team focuses on customer experience to deliver the best-in-class service to our policyholders.
  • Strong understanding of operational and performance metrics.
  • Commitment to professional development adaptable to change open to both receiving and providing feedback in a constructive manner makes changes in behavior based on feedback and/or experience.
  • Collaborating with claims leadership, internal and external business partners to achieve business objectives.
  • Ensuring the team operation is efficient, effective and in compliance with all federal and state requirements.
  • Supporting and executing claim management initiatives.
  • Creating a culture where the team is inspired, engaged, and motivated.
  • Removing obstacles and optimize team results.
  • Demonstrating strong interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills to resolve escalated and complex claim matters with key business partners, customers, advisors, and vendors.

The Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • 5+ years disability claims experience or 5+ years of insurance operational management experience
  • 2+ years experience leading initiatives or projects

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Proficiency in Disability products and Claims
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities to include high performance team building, coaching, and performance management capabilities, and strategic planning and executing
  • Strong knowledge of life and disability insurance fundamentals and practices
  • Exposure to Long-Term Care Claims
  • Works well under pressure, managing multiple and changing priorities within deadlines.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence both internal and external partners.
  • Creative and decisive problem solving/analytical skills.
  • Ability to motivate employees to achieve results.
  • Strong integrity and experience in dealing with people and their confidential information
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills
  • Ability to make independent decisions including balancing risk to company with customer requests and needs.
  • Flexible to travel and work outside of standard office hours
