The opportunity
Functioning as the primary subject matter expert to support Agency Management (representative agreements and incentive agreements) for both Manulife (Singapore) Pte Ltd (MLS) and its subsidiary, Manulife Financial Advisors Pte Ltd (MFA) to advise on investigation, debt recovery and litigation matters to advise on vendor agreements and to function as the secondary support to fellow team members on legal matters relating to Products. In addition, this role will support the General Counsel in the general management of corporate secretarial matters for the MFA Board. This role requires active and effective management of senior stakeholder relationships, both internal and external.
Responsibilities
- Providing end-to-end legal advisory and drafting support to Agency Management covering representative's agreements, dispute resolution and other general corporate commercial matters (such as vendor engagement for events).
- Representing Legal & Compliance at steering committees on Products.
- Continuous support to ensure/improve better drafting practices in the product documentation space.
- Leading in the provision of Corporate Secretarial support to the General Counsel in the meetings of the MFA Board.
- Providing legal advisory on investigation, debt recovery and other litigation matters. Engagement with external legal counsel will be expected.
- Working closely with the compliance team on issues with regulatory development to offer holistic and consolidated L&C position.
- Staying abreast of changes to the legal and regulatory landscape through industry interactions, external seminars, MAS and LIA updates and law firm publications.
- Actively deliberating and advising on legal and regulatory updates that impact business.

What we are looking for
- Minimum 5-7 years of PQE in in-house legal counsel roles with leading life insurance companies or leading financial institutions specialising in bancassurance legal work.
- Alternatively, substantial experience as a corporate
- Law degree from a reputable law school.
- Prior experience in corporate secretarial work involving extensive senior stakeholder engagement.
- Qualified lawyer in Singapore.
- Proficiency in MAS regulations and guidelines.
