Our Financial Advisor Services Technology (FAST) team is hiring an Appian Technical Lead that can lead development of a next generation process orchestration system using the Appian PaaS to deliver multi-tiered, scalable solutions. This position is a part of a wider modernization program at Vanguard, and offers a unique opportunity to work with business and technology leadership to develop applications that transform the way we work.

In this role, you will

  • Provide advanced level IT technical lead services and direction for software, middleware, or hardware projects on a single platform. Provide technical expertise and complete complex development, design, implementation, architecture design specification, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure the viability of IT deliverables. Recommend development options and conduct testing.
  • Identify potential solutions and may approve solutions proposed by team members. Resolve complex issues uncovered by testers and internal clients.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders on project issues and implications. Evaluate the impacts of change requests on technologies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of IT development methodology, architecture design, and technical standards. Mentor IT staff with less experience and identify training needs.
  • Review and approve documentation and diagrams created by IT team members. Write documentation, including technical standards and processes.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous quality improvement of technical standards, methodologies, and technologies.
  • May participate in design, code, and test inspections throughout product life cycle to contribute technical expertise and to identify issues. Present technical status and issues at milestone reviews.
  • Thoroughly understand and comply with Information Technology and Information Security policies and procedures, and verify that deliverables meet requirements.

What it takes

  • Minimum of five years related work experience, with at least two years of development experience.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
