Roles & responsibilities

We are seeking Summer Analysts to join our Special Situations team within our Direct Lending group Portfolio Management department. Summer Analysts will be responsible for a variety of both investment and research responsibilities as described further below. Ares seeks to fill its Summer Analyst class with a broad mix of candidates coming from a variety of backgrounds (including finance, economics, mathematics, data analysis, and other fields).

The Firm has an extensive training program for new hires, to ensure that all summer analysts are provided a well-rounded introduction to the field and are taught the skills & understandings needed to succeed, regardless of their academic background. Responsibilities could include

  • Understanding and executing the due diligence process in support of active restructurings and owned portfolio companies
  • Building and updating integrated financial models
  • Understanding industry research, trends, and drivers
  • Interfacing with portfolio companies, management teams, third party diligence providers, and other external partners

Successful candidates should have

  • Knowledge of finance and accounting is a plus but not required. We are primarily looking for general aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Novice to intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and proven ability to multi-task
  • Initiative and a strong entrepreneurial mindset
  • The ability to research solutions and be a problem solver

Candidates for the 2025 Summer Analyst Program MUST

  • Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student, ideally majoring in Finance or Economics
  • Have an anticipated graduation date between December 2025 and August 2026
